19 June 2025

On June 13th, 2025, Conscious Aerospace (CA) received confirmation from the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management that the HAPSS consortium has been granted €73.3m of funding from the Dutch National Growth Fund.

HAPSS is the largest project within ‘Luchtvaart in Transitie’ (Aviation in Transition), a program overseeing a €383m National Growth Fund investment targeting strategic opportunities for the accelerated introduction of next generation, sustainable aviation solutions. The program focuses on breakthrough technologies for efficient aircraft development, along with associated long-term research and adjacent activities.

The goal of HAPSS is to fly a fully certifiable liquid hydrogen electric propulsion system in the next four years, while fostering Dutch production capacity throughout the entire supply chain. The HAPSS program is an international, consolidated effort to build Tier 1 capability in the Netherlands, as a leading supplier of hydrogen fuel cell propulsion systems.

The HAPSS consortium is a partnership, led by Conscious Aerospace, of the following companies:

  • Aeronamic B.V. (Aeronamic)

  • Conscious Aerospace B.V. (Conscious Aerospace)

  • Coöperatief Elysian Aircraft Company U.A. (Elysian)

  • EH Group Engineering SA (EH Group)

  • Magna Steyr Fahrzeugtechnik GmbH & Co KG (Magna)

  • Senior UK Limited (Senior)

  • SII Netherlands B.V. (Sii)

  • Stichting AeroDelft (AeroDelft)

  • Stichting Koninklijk Nederlands Lucht- en Ruimtevaartcentrum (NLR)

  • Technische Universiteit Delft (TU Delft)

“International collaboration to achieve our goals is an absolute must. The consortium we have assembled has the capability, experience, and drive needed to achieve a fully certified solution. With strong government backing we can act now by designing and delivering a certified retrofitted Dash 8-300 with our novel propulsion system and start flying towards the end of this decade.” stated Erik Geertsema, CEO of Conscious Aerospace.
