Conscious Aerospace at ICAS 2024: Showcasing Hydrogen-Electric Innovation

From September 9-13, 2024, Conscious Aerospace shared its work at the International Council of the Aeronautical Sciences (ICAS) in Florence, Italy. Bringing together over 650 experts from around the world, the event focused on future developments in aerospace.

Bartjan Rietdijk, Lead Certification Engineer at Conscious Aerospace, presented our Hydrogen-Electric Retrofit project. His presentation highlighted growing interest in sustainable aviation and included discussions on advancements in fuel cell technology and evolving regulations, emphasizing the need for collaboration to achieve climate-neutral aviation.

Mission H2 is a collaborative initiative aimed at establishing a fully functional hydrogen market in the Netherlands by 2030. Conscious Aerospace is proud to be part of this ambitious project, working alongside leading Dutch companies and the government to drive the energy transition. We are thrilled to announce the official opening of our new hangar at Rotterdam The Hague Airport, a significant milestone in our mission to revolutionize sustainable aviation. As covered by Innovation Origins, our groundbreaking HAPSS (Hydrogen Aircraft Powertrain and Storage Systems) technology is set to transform the industry by retrofitting existing planes with hydrogen fuel cells, enabling zero-emission flights.

Our goal is ambitious: to operate the first commercial hydrogen-powered flight by 2028. This aligns with the Dutch government's Luchtvaart in Transitie initiative, which supports sustainable aviation through substantial investment from the National Growth Fund. Conscious Aerospace is leading the HAPSS initiative, an innovative project designed to transform aviation by retrofitting existing regional turboprop aircraft with zero-emission hydrogen-based technologies. By integrating advanced solutions from the automotive and maritime industries, including liquid hydrogen, fuel cells, electric motors, and silent propellers, the project aims to demonstrate a flying aircraft by 2027 and initiate flights from Rotterdam The Hague Airport to London by 2028. HAPSS unites over 12 Dutch companies and institutions to deliver the industry's first fully certified powertrain for large regional aircraft.
