What does it actually take to introduce hydrogen-powered aircraft into commercial service?
That’s the question we explored at ICAS 2026.
Our paper moves beyond aircraft design to focus on the operational reality of hydrogen-electric regional aviation. It looks at what is required across certification, airport operations, air traffic management, maintenance, crew training, and ground handling to enable commercial entry into service.
One of the key conclusions is encouraging: hydrogen-electric regional aircraft can be integrated into today’s aviation system without fundamentally changing how that system operates. The biggest changes are targeted and manageable, particularly around ground operations, training, and safety procedures.
That’s an important shift in the conversation.
The question is no longer just whether hydrogen aviation is possible. It’s how we make it operationally and regulatorily ready for commercial service.
We’re proud to contribute to that discussion with practical, engineering-led development.
The full paper, presented at ICAS 2026, will be published through the ICAS channels.
